Sun Sea Skis is reader-supported. Some links to retailers are affiliate links, which means that if you buy something after following one, we earn a small commission. The price you pay is exactly the same.
As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases.
What an Affiliate Link Is
An affiliate link carries a code that tells the retailer we sent you. If you buy, the retailer pays us a percentage out of its own margin. Nothing is added to your bill, and you are not charged for using the link rather than going to the shop directly.
This is how the site pays for itself. The alternative, for a site covering a subject where people spend a lot of money, is advertising, and advertising means letting a network track readers around the internet. We would rather earn a commission on a boat cover than sell your browsing history, which is also why there is no ad network and no tracking here at all. The privacy policy sets out exactly what that means.
What It Does Not Change
This is the part that matters, so it is worth being specific rather than reassuring.
Commission does not decide what gets recommended. Products are picked because they are the right answer to the question the article is asking. Where the honest recommendation is a cheaper item, a second-hand one, or not buying anything at all, that is what the article says, and that happens regularly in the gear guides.
Commission does not decide the order. Nothing is ranked higher because it pays more. Plenty of things worth owning carry no affiliate programme at all, and they still get recommended.
Criticism is not softened. If a product has a weakness, the article says so, affiliate link or not. A gear guide that never says anything negative is not a gear guide, it is a catalogue.
Nobody pays to appear. There is no sponsored content on this site, no paid guest posts and no bought link placements. If that ever changes, it will be labelled clearly on the article itself, not disclosed only here.
Prices and Availability
Prices quoted in articles are what we saw when the article was written or last checked, and chandlery prices move. Treat them as a guide to the order of magnitude rather than a quote, and check the current figure before you commit to anything. The same goes for availability: boat gear is discontinued and replaced constantly.
We are not the seller. Returns, warranties, shipping and anything that goes wrong with an order are between you and the retailer.
Questions
If you would rather not use an affiliate link, do not. Search for the product directly and buy it the usual way. It costs you nothing either way and the article is the same article.
If you think a recommendation here has been shaped by commission rather than merit, say so through the contact page. That is a fair challenge and it will get a straight answer.
