Privacy Policy

The short version: Sun Sea Skis runs no analytics, no advertising trackers and no mailing list. You can read the whole site without giving us anything, and we would not know if you did.

The longer version is below, because “we value your privacy” is not a policy and you deserve to know specifics.

What We Do Not Collect

There is no analytics package on this site. No Google Analytics, no tag manager, no Meta pixel, no heatmap or session recording tool. We do not know how many people read any given article, which is occasionally frustrating and seemed like the right trade.

There is no advertising network, so nothing on these pages is profiling you for an ad somewhere else. There is no newsletter and no email capture anywhere on the site, including on the calculators, which produce their results on the page without asking who you are. There are no accounts to create and no logins for readers.

Every file the site loads is served from this domain. The fonts, stylesheets, scripts and images are all hosted here rather than pulled from a content delivery network, so simply opening a page does not announce your visit to a third party.

Comments

If you leave a comment, the form asks for a name and an email address. WordPress also records the IP address the comment came from and the browser user agent string, which is how spam filtering works.

The name you give is published with the comment. The email address is not published. It is used to identify you as the author of the comment and to reply if a reply is needed.

Comment avatars are served by Gravatar, which is operated by Automattic. When an avatar is displayed, a one-way hash of the commenter’s email address is sent to Gravatar so it can return the matching picture. This applies to commenters only. If you never comment, nothing of yours goes to Gravatar.

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely so that follow-up replies make sense in context. You can ask for yours to be deleted at any time.

Cookies

Reading the site sets no cookies. There is no consent banner here because there is nothing to consent to.

Two exceptions exist, and both are WordPress behaving normally. If you leave a comment and tick the box offering to remember your details, WordPress stores your name, email and website in cookies on your own device so you do not have to retype them next time. They last up to a year and you can clear them in your browser. Separately, signing in to the site as an administrator sets session cookies, which is only relevant to the people who run it.

Server Logs

The web host keeps standard server logs, as every host does. These record the IP address, the page requested, the time and the user agent, and they exist so that outages and attacks can be investigated. They are not used to build a picture of individual readers and they are not combined with anything else.

Articles link out to manufacturers, retailers, coastguards, class associations and other sailing sites. Some of those links are affiliate links, as explained in the affiliate disclosure.

Once you follow a link you are on somebody else’s site, under their privacy policy, and they will do whatever they do. Retailers in particular set their own cookies to track referrals. We have no control over that and no visibility into it. Nothing in this policy applies past the moment you leave.

Software on the Site

The site runs on WordPress with a theme built for it. One plugin is active, Rank Math, which handles page titles, meta descriptions and the XML sitemap. It does not track visitors or collect reader data.

The calculators and quizzes run entirely in your browser. Nothing you type into them is sent to this server or anywhere else, nothing is stored, and closing the tab discards it. That is also why they can give you an answer instantly and without asking for an email address.

Your Rights Over Your Data

If you have commented, you can ask for a copy of the data held about you, ask for it to be corrected, or ask for it to be erased. Write to the address on the contact page and say which comments are yours.

If you have never commented, there is nothing to request. The site holds no record of you.

Children

This site is aimed at adults and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If a comment from a child has been published, let us know and it will be removed.

Changes to This Policy

If the site ever starts using analytics, advertising or a mailing list, this page will be updated before that happens rather than afterwards, and the date below will change.
